Charlotte has a diverse employment, discrimination, and human rights practice. She is recognised as a rising star of the employment bar, and is regularly instructed both as sole counsel and as junior counsel in complex litigation.
Charlotte acts across the full spectrum of employment-related litigation, including whistleblowing and discrimination claims, as well as worker status and contract disputes. She often appears against more senior counsel, and is trusted by clients for her clear-sighted, strategic approach.
Charlotte is instructed as a junior to leaders in large-scale group litigation. Most recently this year she has appeared as junior in a group worker status case brought by several thousand couriers, and in a group indirect race discrimination claim concerning the pay of several hundred cleaners and security staff.
Charlotte also represents trade unions before the Central Arbitration Committee in applications for statutory recognition.
Charlotte has a varied practice in discrimination law outside the employment sphere. Recent work includes advising on multiple judicial reviews with discrimination elements in the housing sector on behalf of disabled clients; advising a higher education scholarship body on potential indirect discrimination risks arising from charitable gifts; and advising organisations on the obligations and risks in the provision of single-sex and trans-inclusive spaces.
Charlotte has undertaken several complex and sensitive investigations for large organisations, including those concerning the most serious sexual harassment. She is valued for her thorough, independent, and empathetic approach.
Charlotte welcomes instructions in actions against the police, particularly those involving equality breaches.
Charlotte is committed to pro bono work and improving access to justice, and takes pro bono instructions via Advocate, the ELSC, FRU and other organisations. She is an elected executive committee member of the Employment Law Bar Association.
